Ok...I just happen to love to play Devil's Advocate...no pun intended...so here goes. I also want to preface this by saying that I do not believe in god or heaven and hell. These things were made up so that human beings can go through their lives without having to fear death. The catholics also like to think that they can screw off their whole life and then ask forgiveness at the last minute and they'll be redeemed. What a comfortable but very naive notion that must be. So you might be sitting there asking yourself, "so what DO you believe in?". That's easy. I believe very strongly in Karma. If you want to read a book...read The Celestine Prophecy. This book explains how the world is in a nutshell. Although I'd like for you to remember that this book, just like the bible, is a book of both fiction and non-fiction. Don't read it and take every single word literally like so many seem to like to do with the bible. Now then...off we go to my point.
I'm in control of my life...with outside influences. I may be riding my bike down the road and someone who's not paying attention pulls out in front of me. He/she made me change my direction, but it's my decision what to do next...and after. I think saying that god or anyone/thing else has control over our lives is a huge cop out. You don't have to admit that you make so many bad relationship choices because it's all god's plan that you meet these people so they can teach you lessons. No...it's not. It's you making one bad choice after another. Take responsibility for your life and the decisions you make. If you need "god" to make you feel secure about death, so be it, but you need to learn to love life, not fear death. If you live your life to the fullest every day, when the end comes you won't be sad. And no, I'm not going to hell for my beliefs, because there's no such place. If you want to see hell, go talk to my ex mother-in-law...lol. I wish you all peace and good fortune.

John

Easytex.. Just seen this and been awhile for me on this thread. Its always been hard for me to give up my control over things or the thought that I do have control.. Ive heard that men always want to fix things right. Its our weakness in life and in the scheme of things.. Why women always looking for someone not controling. LOL.. As life teaches us we comply and give in I think.. Or I have mostly. hehe.. WE learn and grow with each day of our lives and all for the better...

Peace and Ride Safe...

I believe that God is in control, but we have free will... He gave us free will. God is a gentleman, He never pushes anything on us. He wants us to discover some things on our own, with His guidance... which requires seeking what the true nature of God is! God wants to give us the desire of our heart... so what is that for you? I am still figuring it out. I believe when we have questions, we should go to the manual. There's direction there. These past 2 years have been very hectic for me... a divorce, a move & one very ticked off daughter. Makes me realize I have very little control, BUT, I am responsible for my actions so I need to do the best I can, each day... one at a time.

One of my favorite sayings is: I don't know what tomorrow brings, but I know WHO brings tomrrrow. That pretty much says it all... for me anyway.

Happiness keeps you sweet,
Trials keep you strong.
Sorrows keep you human,
Failures keep you humble.
Success keeps you glowing,
But only God keeps you going.
You are special!

Have a blessed day/ night everyone, and remember
Let go, and let God!

I am the one that has to work at mindfully controlling my thoughts, my actions and ultimately my destiny. However, at the same time, I also realize that I have absolutely no control over anyone or any thing outside of myself. I can blame no one but myself for the paths I choose and I've given up on admonishing myself for some of those choices... that one took me a long time to work on. haha

It takes effort to make conscious choices from one moment to the next. I can choose which things to let into my life, my space. At times, though, I know that Karma is definitely having it's way with me, then I have to find my center and work with it.

This is tough stuff to work through and work on. I like to sit quietly some times and focus on the breath, releasing with the out breath any junk that's weighing me down. Then, I focus on letting go of any thoughts I may have had to sway or control others in any way and to release any of their attempts to control me directly or passively.

I believe in reincarnation too and know I have been here many times before. Hopefully, I'll have a swift rebirth when it is my time and get to do it again... wheeeee ! haha

When things get too tough and overwhelming, try to draw on whatever source you can for strength. Whether you believe in God, Buddha or Cosmic Rays, try to focus on that. The universe is alive with vibrance and has an abundance of energy and strength to give you if you ask for it.

Nice to hear from others who share a spiritual journey that is based in Karma

I have heard it said that Religion is for those who are afraid of going to hell, and Spirituality is for those who have been through it!

For my part , I do believe that we are. I am a believer in re incarnation. I believe that I planned my experiences before birthing. I believe evrything is good. I believe that I am a diminished version of God, although I am definitly NOT referrring to some old man sitting in a chair in heaven. It is my belief that I am a soul that has been here many many times. and each time I come through here it is with the sole (soul) purpose of learning . So in a sense, I am in control.

Softie...I agree with you. I think we all want to have total control of ourselves & what happens in our lives. But when you "Let Go and Let God" & have Faith in Him...I find at least in myself that I have an inner peace & that everything works out in my life even moreso & truly is a blessing. The hardest thing also I believe is that we're in a world where we want instant results & instant things to happen. And sometimes things that we want in our lives? Well you know what? Maybe God doesn't feel we need to have that in our lives at this moment. Sometimes also when one prays & wonders why God hasn't answered their prayers? Well? He may have answered their prayers by not giving them what they wanted. Or waiting until it is the right time if at all.

The realization was easy, the letting go is hard. Still struggle with it daily. It's not in my time, its in God's time and His will be done!
