My 21 year old daughter is now in her 3rd year of college & this year she decided to audition for the university choir & she was accepted & is a second Alto. She hasn't been in choir since high school & she's really enjoying this! Last night was their first concert & she bought tickets for a gf & I to go & this was my BD present from her! The concert was at 7:30 PM & it was sold out & I believe the concert hall holds 900 people per my daughter & the hall is just breathtaking...They performed with the symphony orchestra & both groups were awesome!
I have the program here in front of me so I can share...
First the orchestra performed 4 pieces from Dmitri Shostakovich, Symphony No. 5 Opus 47, which were Moderato, Allegretto, Largo & Allegro non trappo. Oh my gosh, was it beautiful! They took a small intermission & then the choir came out & joined the symphony orchestra. Oh did my daughter look beautiful & oh so grown up at 21. I stood up during intermission & this was a good thing because then she was able to spot where I was sitting. I could see that she was searching the crowd for me & also her boyfriend & 2 gf's. Found out after the concert that her Dad wasn't there because he had to go deer hunting, which the season opened this morning. His loss for not seeing our daughter. Sorry if I sound a bit bitter...he's a great Dad & does a lot for her but I was disappointed for her that he wasn't there last night. I didn't let on to her though my disappointment when I asked if her Dad was there & she told me he went hunting. That's one thing I always have tried not to do...She couldn't wave at me but she did touch one side of her hair by her ear & she got a huge smile on her face when she spotted my gf & me. The music they performed was from Carl Orff & was Carmina Burana & they sang each piece with the symphony orchestra & they sang in German. Carmina is the plural of the Latin word Carmen & in early times, carried the implication of student songs. Burana was the Latin name for the area we know today as Bavaria. Both sacred & secular, the texts are frank avowals of earthly pleasure; eating, dancing, gambling, & lovemaking. They proclaim the beauty of life & glory of springtime. The music is simple in harmony & range, consistent with 13th century music, with a driving rhythm to which the listener instinctively responds.

Oh my gosh, was the music beautiful! They received a standing ovation from us...
After the concert, my daughter found her bf & 2 gf's & then they came over by us. I gave her a huge hug & I gave her 6 long stem red roses with baby's breath tied in a red ribbon. What a proud moment...
I really miss the days of her being in school & going to all of her band concerts, choir concerts, & all the sports she played in. So this was truly a gift to experience this all over again only with her oh so grown up & the professionalism of this concert last night.
